A lone man sits in a darkened room, bathed only in the cold, flickering glow of a television. As he watches, the images on the screen blur and distort, merging with shadows that creep across the walls. Strange, surreal scenes flash before him—familiar faces morph, landscapes twist into unrecognizable shapes, and sounds echo as if from a distant, warped reality. Detached and transfixed, he becomes lost in a hypnotic loop, questioning whether he’s watching the screen or if the screen is watching him.

The church was fully behind this terrifying crusade against the imaginary enemies of Christianity. In France and Germany alone up to 40,000 people may have been killed as witches. A lonely 40-year-old man sits on the balcony of a Finnish apartment building. Joonas Berghäll has learned that he will die in 14 years’ time, unless he changes his way of living or attitude towards life. Joonas wants to make a film about the state of wellbeing of Finnish men, drawing from his own experiences and mirroring the society at large. The film is built around six stories. It starts with the context of school and proceeds through the contexts of military service, custody battle, burnout and substance abuse to end on the subject of premature death caused by health problems.

The film follows three characters on a tour of the remote Yunman province of China where they travel with a horse to deal with legal disputes in mountain villages. Government policy is forcing the retirement of "Auntie" Yang (Yang Yaning) and she will have to separate after years of professional partnership from Feng (Li Baotian). They are accompanied by her replacement, recent law school graduate Ah-Luo (Lu Yulai).

During an evening meeting of the Young Creative Workshop Encounters (held December 1971 in Elbląg, Poland), an argument divided the group of artists. Przemysław Kwiek suggested continuing the debate the following day through a conversation of “visual tactics” between two teams who each had 1.5m long sticks as well as white and red canvas. Each team watched as the other made a move, and fourteen were made in total over three hours. Documented through photographs and text, Kweik and Kulik presented this material as a narrated slideshow in the 1970s-80s, and in 2006 recreated this in the form of a digital video.

Weary of his running-in-circles existence as a merry-go-round horse, the little hobby-horse gets a case of wanderlust. That night he gets out after the fair has closed and takes in the world of the Crazy House, the Wax Museum, the Ferris Wheel and a roller coaster. Battered and beaten from his adventures, he concludes he is better off on his stand at the merry-go-round.
