Positive Men begins as a docudrama which illustrates the impact of the AIDS epidemic on gay men in the early 1980s. Memories of New York and San Francisco are the backdrop for seven dramatic scenes which designate the intersection of community support, medical science, and gay politics that emerged in response to the AIDS epidemic. Words and images from these scenes resonate throughout the documentary portraits which follow. The interviews, conducted in Toronto and San Francisco (1993-1994), feature artists, filmmakers, AIDS community workers, writers and volunteers who have made unique contributions within the cultural and community responses to AIDS.

When Bob Stokes, a wealthy New York clubman, loses his fortune, he is jilted by his fiancée Marcia Fontaine. He then wanders to an upstate lumber camp where he impresses the owner, Henry Willard, with his leadership and fighting abilities. After Stokes quells a strike engineered by the previous foreman, Robert Brummon, who is really a Bolshevik agitator, to prevent shipments of lumber for government contracts, Brummon, seeking revenge, sets the forest on fire, but Stokes controls it. Willard then sends for Stokes to oversee his New York shipyards where a government "mystery ship" is under construction. After Stokes and Willard's daughter Helen fall in love, Brummon gets Marcia to attempt to seduce Stokes. Marcia lures Stokes to her apartment, where Brummon plans to kill him, but he escapes when he learns that a time bomb is set to destroy the ship.

In this space, two men, who have a seemingly deep but incomprehensible bond, try to coexist seamlessly while making space to accept the inherent fluidity of human sexuality, for one another. As their exploration, of the 'queer' within, acts in sync with the space around them, their relationship goes through a silent but unrestrained struggle.

Alfred is the chairman of the Tanzania Albino Society and he makes a living carrying out the everyday activities typical of a small society, but now he is sought after by the international press and he is following the case of a farmer who has been mutilated, probably the first victim of an aggression after six months of apparent calm. Samson is a member of this society, a young man trying to maintain his family working as a gardener at the aqueduct; his worries are bearable thanks to the love for his wife and his three kids. Maneno is a teenager with no interest in studying and spends his time on the play station and watching European soccer, but now, since a few days ago, a wound on his shoulder has started to give him problems. Dixon, known as Mr White by his neighborers, is an almost 20. He is a rapper who has created a little bit of a name for himself in the local bongaflava scene because of his songs which expose the problems of albinos.

When Ashley Hampdon becomes the target of a scheme to ruin him by his daughter's suitor, Hampdon sends for his old friend Bob White. Bob discovers that the suitor, Gregg Lewiston, cannot hope to win Lina Hampdon while her father's wealth remains intact. Lewiston hopes that if her family becomes destitute, she will turn to him.
