In the late 19th century, rakugo student Taihei gives up hope of making the grade, and his despair leads him to take up residence at a rowhouse in Tokyo's Fukagawa district. There he meets an emotionally distant boy named Sadakichi, and as fate would have it, he ends up teaching him rakugo.

During the Republican Era, in the chaotic society, some martial arts scums bully and prey on the weak. In order to solve the case of his best friend Sun Zhan Peng’s family’s extermination, young Zhou Xin Wu devoted himself to learning Bajiquan, the martial art, and fought against the evil forces. After enduring numerous setbacks and hardships, he finally found the real killer and became the master of Bajiquan.

This movie is of Hally, an adolescent white South African. He is stuck between his intolerant father's outlook of him and those of his caretaker, Sam. Sam is a black waiter and Hally's friend and teacher. Hally is required to laugh at his father's racist jokes, by contrast, Sam exposes Hally to uplifting experiences. One day Hally was terribly humiliated by his father and Sam shows Hally how to be proud of something he can achieve.

The film is based on a 1955 play by Axel Kielland, who also plays a minor character in the film. The play and the film is based on a true story from Sweden. The Master and his Servants was entered into the 9th Berlin International Film Festival.

He has to paint walls, clean chimneys, and fix water conduits. He is not able to accomplish any of these tasks and gets into funny situations all the time. Moreover, he and his roommate, a good friend of his, quarrel over a girl. But this situation is a misunderstanding as well - the friends love different girls. A happy end is in sight.
