Germany, Baltic Sea coast, May 1945, a few days before the end of World War II. A small Soviet patrol arrives at an isolated house where an elderly baroness gives shelter to a group of orphan girls and a boy who is determined to continue the fight.

Zélie, 9, admires her big brother Basile who accumulates images like a collector. In the absence of their mother, he involves her in the shooting of his film. But Zélie has to deal with her director’s changing moods.

A new manager, Kyoko Otonashi, has arrived at Ikkokukan, a very old wooden apartment building. Yusaku Godai, a Ronin who lives in room 5, falls in love with Kyoko Otonashi. It depicts the lively daily life of Ikkokukan, a place where unique people gather, centering on the love story between a young widowed manager and her younger lodger.

The father, A-Kuang, is jobless but pretends to go out to work everyday. The mother, A Siou, is willing to sacrifice everything to protect the family. The son, Yi-Peng, has a dream to study abroad. They struggle and sacrifice but they never seem to find what goes on eachother's hearts. When it comes to a seemingly happy ending, perhaps nothing is resolved…

Once known for his intellectual prowess, a retired professor (Anupam Kher) begins experiencing memory gaps and periods of forgetfulness. But while he tries to laugh it off, it soon becomes clear that the symptoms are a sign of a more serious illness, prompting his grown daughter (Urmila Matondkar) to move in as his caretaker. Meanwhile, as his mind regresses, he recalls a traumatic childhood memory involving the death of Mahatma Gandhi.
