The rebellion of 1832 is on. There is rioting and barricading in the streets. Marius in despair, and in the hope that a bullet will soon end his life, joins the mob and becomes a fighter in the ranks of the insurgents.
Georges Méliès' adaptation of Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" is most distinguished, today, for being a color film of the classic story. Color was rare in 1902 (and many years after) as non-tinted color has to be hand painted on the film; this was an arduous task. Also notable is the film's short running time of approximately five minutes. Much of the original work is not covered, but viewers were expected to be familiar with the story, and enjoy the filmed highlights. There are a couple of scenes missing; according to contemporary reports, Gulliver's shipwreck was certainly included. You can do a lot in a few minutes, as Mr. Méliès includes a re-make of his own "Une partie de cartes" (1896), which already looked like something previously covered by the Lumière Brothers.
“In 1992 I bought a small mini-DV camera to film my diary and fix my memories, which have become “transparent” due to my nomadic life. When I returned to my village, I learned that an attempt had been made to poison my great aunt Yasmina. I went to visit her and that's how I started this movie without knowing it. Very quickly I was caught up in Yasmina's oral novel and its great secret. I was working at the time, in Europe, on my exhibition "The 60 Names of Love". My life was divided between two exiles, here and there, between the Gregorian calendar and the Hegira calendar, between the drama of Yasmina and my journey to the heart of the Arabic language and The 60 Names of love.” Nacer Khemir
A subtle reflection on the creative process of painter André Masson, and on creativity in general. It is at the crossroads of the documentary and the poem. It exalts the work of Masson and demonstrates lucidity, dedication and patience necessary for any creator. It superimposes the image a text inspired by the work of Masson, divided into eight parts, directs the eye to the heart of the artist's creative work.
