Mario Mieli was one of the most surprising figures of the great season of the 70s: intellectual, writer, performer, provocateur, but above all an activist for the rights of homosexuals and author of a cornerstone of gender and queer studies such as Elements of homosexual criticism. This documentary film in the form of a collection of materials and "notes" in five chapters (Poetry, Movement, Theatre, Alchemy, Death) shows the numerous and incredible facets of a unique personality in the Italian panorama, through the stories of ten friends and witnesses and a large number of audio and video materials, partly unpublished and shown here for the first time.
This experimental movie was created editing unexplicit parts of erotic movies with acted scenes.
In a parallel Argentina, factories are production spaces for various artistic activities whose income is regulated by a state commission. Jorge, the manager of one of them, seeks to impose a post-dramatic work in the theater area to lower costs and increase profits. However, the claim generates a conflict not only with its workers, but also with the modes of representation.
Donizetti's French masterpiece was in the hands of Italian conductor Antonello Allemandi. This maestro, a bel canto specialist, captured the fire and intensity of the passions from the get-go, making the overture a superbly eloquent transition to a musical world based on beautiful lines and colors that elaborate distress and make it compellingly elegant. Allemandi demonstrated a full authority over the stage for the musically complex scenes, and in the arias and duets he demonstrated his confidence in the artistry of distraught singers by establishing ample tempos to support their soaring vocal lines while he concentrated on pulling every possible nuance from the pit players.
A Venetian girl falls in love with a poet. But the latter is too cynical and boastful to bother to reply to the young girl's passionate letter and instructs his secretary, a shy dreamer, to keep the exchange of letters alive. From this intertwining of letters, a tender love is born between the girl and the secretary.
Claude Goretta brings to life the age-old tale of Orpheus and Eurydice in a fresh adaptation of Monteverdi’s Orfeo. Monteverdi’s fabled opera Orfeo was long described as the first opera to have been written. Although modern scholarship has proven this to be untrue, the work remains one of the pillars of western music history, a musical creation which laid the foundations for much of what was to come. As musicologist Jack Westrup explains, Orfeo marked a major milestone not because it broke new ground, but because imagination had taken precedence over theory. While Monteverdi may not have been a revolutionary, his music represents the culmination of centuries of musical evolution, and shows him as the clear master of both polyphony and monody.
A docu-film detailing an exciting journey into Italy’s history and language told amongst the majestic rooms of Villa Medicea di Castello, now home to the Accademia della Crusca di Castello. A feat of titanic proportions given the scale of the Italian language and its vocabulary.
María Luisa is a transgender woman living in a staunchly catholic town. The horrors of rural life in Colombia with all its morality have done nothing but increase the power of this solitary soul. Shunned from birth, from the womb, she has found in the secrets she holds, in her love of animals, in the labyrinth of her faith, a way of dealing with a world that has done nothing but despite her for reasons beyond her control, reasons that have victimized her from the start. But our Miss is as mighty as a stalk of wheat, impervious even to earthquakes, and although she has known much sorrow, there is none powerful enough to exhaust her tears or wipe away her smile.
There exist three different types of faces. The first face you show to the world. The second face you see, when you look into the mirror. The third face is the face even you don't want to know, because it can kill you. The girl in this film runs through all three faces, telling her story with a mafia boss.
