The schools are in lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and Lilly (10) must stay at home and take care of her drunk mother. When the bad girl from class sees what’s going on at her house, Lilly thinks her secret is in danger. But sometimes help can come from where you least expect it.

Xiao Shan, a temporary worker at the Hongyuan Restaurant, has just been fired by his boss Zhao Guoqing. With Bill called away to sea, Rose takes up with young Chinese cook Joe, but despair and conflicts over May's relationship with Joe tear the family further apart. Little Tom is deeply hurt, but May's ongoing conflict with her mother takes a respite when Rose tells her daughter about her traumatic teenage years.

Director Jack and Designer Xue’er will work together to complete a children's clothing advertisement, Xue’er has the habit of painting on banknotes. If the banknote can finally return to her own hand, then her wish can come true. Jack and Xue’er came to the orphanage to find the advertisement starring, and Xue’er chose Bingbing, a rebellious and lonely boy. Afterwards, Jack learned that Bingbing is actually the illegitimate child of Xue’er. Once an accident, Ximei got a cash with Xue’er’s painting. This scene happened to be seen by Jack, and this banknote linked all of them together.

'Wansei' refers to those Japanese who were born in Taiwan during the colonial period. After WWII, they were repatriated to Japan. It took the director 12 years to conduct the interviews and five years to shoot. It tells the stories of not only Wansei themselves but their friendships, family ties and bravery when facing the harsh adversity.

This movie is inspired by the film The Great Escape.
