Formed in 2004 by Creed members Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips and former Mayfield Four singer Myles Kennedy, Alter Bridge is a hard rock band that continues to gain in popularity in a time when record and ticket sales are down. Having spawned 5 Top Ten hits in the US and numerous Top Ten Hits Internationally, Alter Bridge is now becoming one of the most respectable hard rock touring acts in the World. Three of the members 'other band Creed was one of the most successful rock groups ever, having sold over 30 million records, winning a Grammy Award and selling out arenas and stadiums world- wide. Live from Amsterdam is the their first concert film and live album, recorded on December 7, 2008 at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Six London friends, whose lives and work are overshadowed by a demanding film producer, flee the country for a weekend to escape his clutches. Having managed to escape for a rare weekend away from the nameless director's demands, the friends subsequently discover that it is hard to shake off his influence, even whilst safely ensconced in a hotel in Amsterdam. "I am far away on a distant journey through my own city", filmmaker Johan van der Keuken says at the end of his four-hour portrait of Amsterdam. The city is presented as a place where people from all corners of the world live, who all exert their cultural influence on the life in the city. With a motor courier as his central figure, the filmmaker introduces the audience to birds of different feathers. We see diverse cultural expressions, like the house scene, the entry of St. Nicholas and a Ghanese mourning ritual. The binding factor in the film is the concept of 'travelling', in other words Amsterdam as a global village. The camera travels through the film in three ways: over land, over water (canals) and through the air.
