In A Day in the Village, Waimiri and Atroari filmmakers document the day-to-day life of their relatives in the Cacau village, located in the Amazon region. We watch as women prepare the midday meal and do laundry in the river. Men hunt for alligators, paca and tapir in the forest as well as make handcrafts during a rainstorm. Children play and help with chores such as fruit-gathering and fishing, with adults showing them the right way to do things. Through intimate, interwoven images, the video gives us a vivid sense of the daily pattern in this village.

One of the Karrabing's most stirring and direct films, Day in the Life (also screening as part of the Frameworks programme) depicts obstacles encountered across four points of their day. A multilayered hip-hop soundscape sees helpless statements by white media make way for the Karrabing's ultimately empowering words of resistance.

For the latest chapter of Endurance Test, Los Angeles-based director Ivan Olita talks about his portrait of the monks of Mount Hiei, Japan, where spiritual practices hearken back thousand of years, and where the kaihōgyō, a pilgrimage lasting 1000 days, has been completed by less than fifty monks in over a century: “Kaihōgyō, the 1000-day pilgrimage performed by Tendai Buddhists, is not a challenge in the usual sense. The literal translation is 'circling the mountain,' so the mountain itself and a connection to nature is crucial; it has a more meditative meaning, it is part of a lineage of enlightenment wisdom that spans centuries, ages and generations.

Ajit Singh, blends in happily in to his new home in the middle of Australia. However, his brother Rajveer, finds it unbearable to be constantly labelled a terrorist due to his beard and turban that he keeps faithfully according to his Sikh heritage. Rajveer then decides to join the army and leaves home after an argument with their dad Sarjit. Fearing for his brother's safety, Ajit goes on a quest to go after Rajveer in order to bring him home. Ajit not only has to survive the outback, he also must to locate Rajveer within elevendays or it will all be too late.
