At first glance everything seems motionless. A street, passers-by, a sunset, all accompanied by electronic humming: Current Shot 01 consists of a single 15-min shot [...] But the apparent stillness of the shot turns out to be deceptive: while no movement can be seen, the figures' shadows have changed, and a third suddenly leaves the cluster it formed with the other two. As a results of the extreme slow motion, this slight movement can only be recognised after the fact. Like a picture puzzle where you have to look for the differences, the detail oscillates between animated photography, film still and tableau vivant. ~ Alexandra Seibel

A man rescues a boy and later tries to get him off his back but to little avail, so they end up drifting around a subterranean world, populated by grotesque masked figures. A hundred years after Chaplin filmed his first feature film, The Kid, Norbert Pfaffenbichler offers an experimental punk-style interpretation, which the filmmaker himself has defined as a dystopian slapstick film.

In the last years of their lives, the poet Nanos Valaoritis and the painter Marie Wilson lived together in an apartment in downtown Athens. Nanos Valaoritis is reflected in the cinematographic lens, weaving personal memory into space and time. A personal microcosm, containing multifaceted manifestations of a creative life.

This new documentary, surrounding the creation of the OBLIVIØN double album, chronicles my decent into depths I was previously unaware of. It’s my guidebook to the underworld. My love letter to the vast galaxies that exist beneath the iceberg surface of our conscious minds. A dive into parts of the ocean so deep that light never penetrates them. A world inhabited by the beasts we thought we banished from our minds.

In a series of videos entitled “On C.D. Friedrich”, David Muth engages with the famous German painter and his particular approach to the depiction of landscape. In one video we are presented with a drummer sitting behind his kit who is working the drums, in another, a dancer performs moves, both of these scenes taking place in the Finnish woods. The framing of the shots has been chosen carefully according to the principles of pictorial compositions that were the landmark of German Romantic painting. Most importantly, the subjects are entirely subsumed by the landscape, as they are staged in the back of the open volume and therefore become compositional elements that are part of the wider ensemble generated by Muth’s visual selection

In our over-technologised age, how can we capture our identity and our essential humanity to make clear to each other who we are? With a moving camera reminiscent of nostalgic home videos, Josiane Pozi answers this question by filming herself and her family. Everyday reality in a digital world is captured in an abstract and fragmentary way. The banal is elevated into something weighty and valuable, with intimate living room moments as a response to the stereotypical representations of the black female body in traditional imagery. Pozi paints a sometimes uncomfortable and rather unflattering picture of herself and her mother, zooming in on family relationships, annoyances, fun and caring for each other.
