A biographical comedy-drama which through its protagonist Dino Desica brings to life a complex yet very intimate relationship between self and the other. The unfinished structure of the Calatrava Veil in the suburb of Rome is the stage where Dino Desica re-calls his experience of joining a neo-fascist teen gang to escape discrimination for being Neapolitan, not yet aware of his evolving queerness. In the film this landscape reflects the imperialistic failures of both ancient Rome and modern-day Fascism. The building structure is abandoned and unguarded. Dino’s interaction with the skeleton of the building is a marriage of conflict and alliance, a mixture of parody and cynicism.

The film, Document USSR-81, shown on February 19th, 1946, at the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal of the major war criminals, barely registered at the time and today largely forgotten, and yet one of the greatest films of Soviet cinema. A meticulous documentation of the war of annihilation waged by the Wehrmacht and the SS over the long years between 1941 and 1945. The victims have names and people who mourn them.

Right-wing rock concerts but also intellectual "meetings for tradition and identity" form the ideology. A constant support is the ultra-fan scene of the football clubs. The documentary illuminates the facets of neo-fascism in Italy, lets activists have their say, but also a journalist who has been writing about the neo-fascist scene for 20 years.

From 1969 onwards, Danish director and film historian Christian Braad Thomsen maintained a close yet respectfully distanced friendship with Fassbinder. Fassbinder – Lieben ohne zu fordern is based on his personal memories as well as a series of conversations and interviews he held with Fassbinder and his mother Lilo in the 1970s.
