In the Nahua community of Zoquitipa in the Huasteca Potosina, José González, an elderly musician, fights to preserve the Dance of the Wands together with a group of women from the town while facing discrimination inside and outside their community, and the loss of the Nahuatl language and traditions by the new generations.

For more than 30 years, 9 friends have religiously gathered in a roasted corner every month. When they find out that Javier, who makes the roasts, is going to live in another country, mixed feelings, betrayals and jealousy begin to emerge. Deep down, they try to mask something that none of them dares to say: for them, if the roasts are finished, their friendship ends forever.

When Karla finds out she’s a terminal patient, she decides to reconnect with Angie, a niece she hadn’t seen in ten years. Shockingly, she discovers that Angie is being treated after a suicide intent at the hospital. The particular reality experienced by Panama for almost a century due to the military presence of United States in the former Canal Zone is narrated through unpublished materials and revealing interviews with many of the social and cultural personalities who left their imprints in this story. The life in "the zone", the identity of the "zonians", the events that led to the handover of the military bases and the administration to the Panamanians are part of a plot as complex as the story itself.
