Laugh In the Dark takes us into the heart of “queer family values” with an odd little wagon train of “six fags, two dykes and an old lady” who pull into the dilapidated town of Crystal Beach, Ontario in the early l980s. The “boys” dream of restoring this former resort town to its earlier glory, with a twist. They open a B&B, and stage lavish cabarets, complete with lip synching drag queens, to raise money for early AIDS awareness.

All hell breaks loose when Jim Mathews gets doused with an experimental serum at the genetic design firm he works at. Mathew s wife, whom works for the same firm, catches him cheating on her and exacts revenge by throwing the serum directly in his face. The serum causes Mathews limbs to fall off his body and form a colony of bloodthirsty creatures. Mathews also has an unquenchable hunger for hot young girls and stalks them in the dark cover of night to feed his colony. It follows Mosaka and his motley crew to their annual Winter Mania Festival, a fundraising concert for disadvantaged children. He lets the audience take a look at the compulsions and dependencies that arise when living with an addict. The result is interesting. Precisely because of his relentlessly direct approach with the camera as the only point of retreat that the filmmaker remains in the relationship. Exciting, because even from this perspective he sees nothing but Daren. Daren is described in the press material as "charming, beautiful, intelligent", also to justify his attraction to minor. For the gay audience, he could just be another drug queen - muscular, self-indulgent, and by the dozen of goods every Berlin party night - it almost feels like you've accidentally stumbled upon the private video recordings of an acquaintance who, for some unknown reason, falls in love with one of these guys who urgently need help but don't accept it.
