Mr Jo, nicknamed "the man with the Buick", is the darling of the small town of Honfleur. But he is in fact a trafficker with a bad reputation who would like to forget about his past, now limiting himself to smuggling rubies under the cover of a charitable organization which offers underprivileged children holidays in Switzerland. However, Mr. Jo is in love with a pretty widow and, in order to marry her, he is willing to get involved in a hold-up again. After the end of the second world war, Fred Wada Isamu (Osawa), an American of Japanese descent who runs a fruit and vegetable shop in Los Angeles. One day, Wada sees a newspaper article on the search for someone of Japanese descent who can look after Japanese athletes coming to the United States to compete in the national swimming championship, and offers his family. Several months later, Kiyokawa (Mitsuishi), the Japanese swimming team’s coach, and the swimmers Hashizume (Katsuji), Furubashi (Nakao) and others arrive in the United States. The Japanese swimming team breaks one world record after another and sets nine world records. It is joyous news for Japan. Several years later, Wada and his wife receive a phone call from Tabata Masaji (Nishida Toshiyuki), the chairman of the Japanese Swimming Federation and general secretary of the Japanese Olympic Committee. Tabata says he would like some form of help from Wada in their bid for the Tokyo Olympics...

La serie, costituita da 52 episodi da 13 minuti ciascuno, fu realizzata e prodotta fra il 2005 e il 2006 da Stranemani e Rai Fiction. Alcuni episodi furono presentati in anteprima presso diverse manifestazioni dedicate a fumetti e all'animazione: Lucca Comics 2005, Romics 2005 (Roma, 8-11 dicembre), Future Film Festival (Bologna), Comicon (Napoli) e Rimini Comix (Rimini). Rai 2 iniziò a trasmettere la serie il 20 novembre 2006, interrompendo la programmazione dopo i primi 14 episodi; successivamente riprese a trasmetterli dal 16 giugno 2007 fino all'8 settembre. Successivamente la messa in onda degli episodi è stata sospesa definitivamente. Il 13 luglio 2009 la Rai ha poi ripreso la programmazione degli episodi sul canale digitale terrestre per bambini Rai Gulp. È recentemente rientrato nella programmazione di Rai Gulp, in cui sembra aver trovato il suo pubblico di riferimento "pre-adolescenziale", andando in onda nel fine settimana per poi essere reinserito durante la settimana in fascia preserale.
