In balance between the anthropological and the naturalistic gaze, capable of rendering both the signs of human presence and the resistance to it of a territory, Sopra il fiume is an example of an ethnographic documentary of excellent substance and visual charm. In competition in Italy Doc at the 35th edition of the Bellaria Film Festival.

The Whistle tells the story of Giulia, a ten-year-old girl coping with the loss of her parents and her difficulties in accepting the harsh reality she has to face. The film depicts the fragility of a young child in the aftermath of a traumatic experience, aiming to express the confusion going through her mind while accompanying her on her personal journey towards acceptance.

Il Fiacre n. 13, from the novel of the same title by Xavier Henri Aymon Perrin, Count of Montépin, a highly prolific and much-loved author whose books were vehicles for the depiction of social inequality, narrating stories of love, death, betrayal, blackmail, and redemption. The sweeping narrative of Il Fiacre n. 13 was mutilated by the Italian censor’s suppression of its first part, the most cynical episode, which sets the scene for a scheme discernable in the other three episodes, as the story develops from a sordid murder through plotting and deceit to finally reach a happy ending.

Alberto Casiraghy and Josef Weiss are true bibliophile artists. One in Osnago, the other in Mendrisio, they have been dedicating themselves for years to valuable editorial and typographical activities, still printing with mobile characters, preserving the memory of a perfect ingenuity made of manual skills and technique, but also of inventiveness and poetry. Silvio Soldini gives us a realistic and poetical portrait of these two artists-artisans, who chose one of the oldest professions in a modern world, finding great success and approval.
