The United States economy reached a meltdown point in September 2008. A Republican President and Democratic Congress passed a massive bill to bail out banks. Many Americans were shocked that the wealthiest country in the world could be in so much financial trouble overnight. This financial crisis occurred at a point when many Americans were already looking for change in their government and an election provided the opportunity. Then Candidate Barack Obama promised to turn the page and take America in a new direction. A majority of voters were receptive to this message. Congressional leaders pledged to work with their new President to help his vision become reality. Many pointed to the President's agenda as the "New New Deal" and Barack Obama himself promised fundamental change And one cold January day. we embarked on the path to a new America...
These two words – “democracy” and “values” — which have been repeated non-stop by politicians and the media, are practically devalued. Politics in general is a cynical enterprise but nowadays when we have a deeply polarized society, when the majority on both sides believes that the government is taking the country in the wrong direction, hearing the repetitive messaging of the superiority of US democracy and values is pretty pathetic. “The Other America” and many countries of what is called “The Global South” see a different road that would benefit the United States, and the rest of the world through a win-win strategy based on mutual respect of interests of all rather than the hegemony of one. Which road would you choose?

Bob Hope's 2 1/2 hour star-spangled salute to America... "Honor America Day" as aired on July 4, 1970 on WTOP Channel 4 Washington. Billed as a non-partisan, rally around the flag event, it was really an effort to help out his buddy Nixon and prop up sagging poll numbers mostly due to the Vietnam War. As you might expect many people saw through the effort as only war-supporting entertainers were recruited for the event. At some point during the show, supposedly protesters (who can be heard), were hit with tear gas that ended up drifted into the mostly white, evangelical, middle-age conservative audience relaxing on the national lawn. Guests include: Bob Hope, Les Brown & his band, Barbara Eden, Ester Phillips, Jeanie C. Riley, Jack Benny, Dinah Shore, Teresa Graves, Dorothy Lamour, The New Christy Minstrels, Sugar Ray Robinson, Kate Smith, Red, Skelton, Connie Stevens, Glen Campbell and more.
Witchcraft first cast its dark spell in America over Salem, Massachusetts 300 years ago, igniting hysteria, court trials, and burnings at the stake. But the cult of the supernatural could not be snuffed out, for it has always possessed the dreadful power to rekindle itself. As it did in 19th-century New Orleans, where a notorious voodoo queen presided over bloody rituals and bestial orgies. Or in 1928 Pennsylvania, where three men slaughtered an alleged witchdoctor to break a hex. Examine these and other gruesome historical events through interviews with real-life witches - including actual descendants of the Salem Witch Trials - who insist that their practice is a force for both good and evil. In the end, they offer a live ritual ceremony as haunting evidence of their eternal legitimacy.
