With the second-oldest population of any U.S. city, sleepy Venice, Fla., seems an unlikely hatching ground for terrorists -- yet it's where three Sept. 11 hijackers learned to fly. This documentary seeks to find out why. But in the process, it raises as many questions as it answers. With two of the flight schools owned by Dutch nationals -- one with Mafia ties -- the possibility of a covert intelligence operation gone awry looms large.

[DUPLICATE of 'After... Circus Carré'.] While he was trying, Dickson made the same sort of movie that others had before him. This is an imitation.of a Lumiere picture of people leaving a show of their pictures.
Who made the film (and exactly why) is obscure: a transport employee would seem the most likely bet. Whoever it was has left us with some captivating images of the tube as our grandparents knew it. London Underground users know only too well that their city has since paid the price for having once led the world in underground transport. Unsurprisingly, the infrastructure in this film will look familiar to modern Londoners - it's the passengers who have changed: their dress, their body language, their racial mix, their sheer numbers. This artless series of unedited shots of people moving from A to B has taken on a strange, involuntary poetry over the decades. Is this how CCTV will look to our grandchildren?
Filmed from the front of a tram, this is a fine example of the popular early film form known as a 'phantom ride', shot from a moving vehicle to give the audience a virtual journey. Heading from the Pier Head (where the iconic 'Three Graces' had yet to be built), towards the commercial centre of Liverpool, we pass by smartly-dressed city folk - many of whom look towards the camera in fascination.
In a modern retelling of Tod Browning's "Freaks" (1932), "Freakshow" tells the story of a group of criminals who chose to hide out by working security at a traveling circus. At first, they plot with an insider to steal the ticket sales, but the wily Lucy has bigger plans. She convinces the gang to let her seduce and marry the aging circus owner, Lon, in order to secure the entire circus fortune after he "suffers an accident". "People die all the time," Lucy says. The freaks are on to their scheme, however, and when the youngest of them is caught by the ruthless gang, they show no mercy to ensure her silence. When the circus folk find the child's remains, they swear vengeance, and no one is safe from their fury--least of all, the wily Lucy.
