Royal Ballet Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella celebrates its 75th anniversary this Season. The ballet’s opening night in 1948, featuring Moira Shearer and Michael Somes in the lead roles, was received rapturously. After over a decade away from the Royal Opera House stage, Ashton’s timeless reworking of Charles Perrault’s famous rags-to-riches story returns, showcasing the choreographer’s deft musicality and the beauty of Prokofiev’s transcendent score. A creative team steeped in the magic of theatre, film, dance and opera brings new atmosphere to Cinderella’s ethereal world of fairy godmothers and pumpkin carriages, handsome princes and finding true love.

In this New Year’s Day performance, Laurent Pelly’s storybook staging of Massenet’s Cendrillon, a hit of the 2017–18 season, is presented with an all-new English translation in an abridged 90-minute adaptation, with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as its rags-to-riches princess. Maestro Emmanuel Villaume leads a delightful cast, which includes mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo as Cinderella’s Prince Charming, soprano Jessica Pratt as her Fairy Godmother, and mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe and bass-baritone Laurent Naouri as her feuding guardians. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.

This 20th-century retelling of the classic fairy tale keeps all the familiar elements — a selfish step-sister, a put-upon beauty, a Prince Charming, and, of course, a lost slipper — but shifts the action to a contemporary boarding house. Cinderella, played by Mary Fuller, befriends an elderly resident, who buys a party outfit for her favorite when Cinderella’s elder sister preens for a dance. The new clothes transform the unassuming maiden into the toast of the ball. Finding Cinderella’s missing shoe, a dashing young man follows the clue to his grandmother, Cinderella’s friend at the boarding house, who works her magic to reunite the couple.

Ella Ashmore's noble house lies in ruin. She is a prisoner in her own home. Behind her Stepmother's magical facade is a wicked troll, hellbent on casting the world of man-folk into enteral darkness. Fate, fury, and an offering of blood will awaken an eldritch being from an ageless slumber, granting Ella the power to see her sweet dreams come true.

The typical Cinderella storyline: wicked stepmother and stepsisters, and Cinderella can't go to the ball. We see elves and woodland creatures making a dress and a coach out of various woodland materials. A twist: the coach they make then goes though a "modernizer" and comes out as a 1946 Chevy.

Ain't No Cinderellas! chronicles the struggle of domestic workers to form a union for women. In the film we see them fighting for their rights, trying to get the government to respond to their pleas for coverage by the Union and Collective Bargaining Law.

Commissioned by the Mariinsky in 2002, 'Cinderella' was the production that launched choreographer Alexei Ratmansky onto the world stage. Filmed in 2013 and now released on DVD and Blu-ray for the first time, the production stars one of the foremost prima ballerinas in the world today, Diana Vishneva. Recently described by The Telegraph as being 'as close to physical and technical perfection as it is possible to be', Vishneva delivers a dazzling performance, and is conducted by leading Prokofiev interpreter, Valery Gergiev. Ratmansky is the world s most influential ballet-maker, credited with revitalising classical dance through a series of highly individual productions. He breathes new life into Prokofiev s ballet, weaving together an array of different styles and echoing the complexities of the composer s score.

Still unaware that her new friend is Prince Charles, Cinderella must help him uncover the evil Duke Zaral's plot to overthrow the Kingdom. In order to seize power, the Duke plans to have Charles marry his daughter. When Charles refuses, the Duke hopes to ultimately eliminate the Prince by creating a double of him. Cinderella and Charles rush to thwart the Duke's evil plans before it's too late!

Later in the woods, he meets a beautiful girl who teaches him a few steps - but when she disappears, he decides he must see her again, so he holds a royal ball for everyone in the land.
