Untamed beauty and the lure of the North have drawn artist Cory Trépanier to paint the Canadian Arctic for over a decade. Preparing for a touring exhibition to premiere in Washington DC, he now heads back on an expedition to complete his vision. But much has changed since he first went North. Shrinking sea ice is opening the door to a world hungry for its resources. Remoteness can no longer protect this land or its people from the coming impacts. For 9 weeks and 25,000 kilometres, Cory immerses himself into the Arctic. Explores with Inuit elders. Paddles the most northerly canoe route in North America. Walks in the footsteps of early explorers John Rae and John Franklin. Voyages through the Northwest Passage. And deeply connects with a changing land, to bring it to the eyes of those who may never see it. In a rural school in the middle of the mountains, a girl who is starting to become a woman feels the profound need to discover her true identity. She does not know who her father is and she is determined to find him, but her mother does not approve it. The hostility of winter in such a harsh place turns this desire into a real threat: freezing in the middle of nowhere. Going behind the backs of the school authorities and the girl's mother, her teacher decides to help her. They set off on this quest for truth, but it is not going to be an easy journey... In each half-hour episode of First Dates, hopeful singles are filmed on their quest for love. The First Dates restaurant in downtown Vancouver is filled with real people on real first dates, while the ensuing drama is captured on over forty remote-controlled cameras. For some daters, there is an instant and very apparent attraction, but for others, it’s clear that there is never going to be a happy ending. Each date is a mini-drama that plays out in front of the cameras and drives towards a big pay off that keeps the audience hooked…Will any of these First Dates lead to a second?

From 1942 to 1945, a total of 145 Chinese Canadians were selected by the British Special Operations Executive unit known as Force136. These men received extensive training as commandos and were assigned to carry out near-suicide missions far behind enemy lines during the waning days of the Pacific theater of World War II. Despite their significant contribution to both victory in Southeast Asia and the attainment of the right to vote for Chinese Canadians in 1947, their experiences are largely overlooked in Canadian military history. 136 aims to document and tell a visual story that illuminates the legacy of this Chinese Canadian Commando unit and their valiant efforts to secure Asian Civil Rights during the post-war period, highlighting specific narratives in an effort to do so.
