Peter Salem, a former Wall Street executive recently released from prison, returns to his ex-wife and children in the small town of Bunker Hill, Kansas. Soon after he arrives, the town's electricity and power are shut off, and there is no way to communicate with authorities outside of town. The town's militant past is reawakened and forces coalesce to protect citizens from an unseen enemy. The town's fear leads to the creation of a posse of gunmen, resulting in torture, illegal searches and eventually, murder, against which Salem must stand.

A Charlestown native returns to his hometown from serving in Afghanistan to join the Boston Police force like his father and brother before him. Now he must confront his mysterious past which includes his dead brother's widow with whom he has very strong feelings. He is also confronted with his first case on the force which involves the brutal murder of a woman and her unborn child in a town that doesn't talk about its own and within a police force where some people may not be who they seem.

On the morning of June 17, 1775 Colonial Patriots await a battle in the heights above Boston Harbor. Approaching are the English Redcoats, the most feared fighting force in the world. Low on water and ammunition, the ragged band of farmers-turned-militiamen face a daunting task. Can they protect the freedom of a new nation?
