Among the Wana people, semi nomads from the Indonesian (Sulawesi) forest, Indo Pino is a shaman recognized by everybody. Her nephew, who is also a shaman’s son, converted to Christianity some months ago and is now preaching the visions. And for him, if the visions come from God, the visions of the shamans inevitably must come from Satan. Through the Christian concepts of sin and original fault, good and evil notions are revised, The traditional healing practices of the shamans are heavily under attack. Under our eyes a fight between two worlds of religious conceptions is taking place.

At the end of the busy year of 1997, we ended up filming a documentary produced by Jorge Timm. Jorjão's restaurant was very close to the Uruguay River, on Ilha Redonda, and there was a river flood, which rose about eleven meters above the normal level - two meters less than the record high of 1983 - and displaced many people. Claudio Baiestorf, Carli and I went there to record the damage, interview homeless people and invent delusions. We arrived at the place and realized that Jorge had greatly exaggerated, via telephone, the size of the flood damage. There were not even homeless people. Thanks to warnings from the civil defense, all residents had taken precautions. We opened a whiskey and started filming anyway.

A dacoit named Lakhan Pal kidnaps a girl called Chandrika. He tries to rape her along with his gang members. Chandrika bites Lakhan's hand and applies his blood on her forehead making him her husband so that he protects her. They have a son Sunil. When his gang is attacked Lakhan escapes with his family to his wife's father's place. He gives up being a criminal but years later it still affects Sunil.
