What did the old parliament look like when Vikings settled Iceland in 874 A.D.? How has the Icelandic environment changed since man first arrived? Is the human species a blight on the face of the Earth? What will the future look like here? Will the glaciers melt whether we like it or not? Will there be a volcanic eruption in the Reykjavik area? Will soil erosion blow Iceland back into the ocean? Can natural waterfalls replace energy with pollutants - and at what cost to the landscape?

Experimental animation artist Rose Ansari renders the work of Forough Farrokhzad (1934 – 1967), noted as the first Iranian poet to promote the culture of women in poetry. Ansari shares, “Expressing her thoughts on discrimination and inequality, Forough described Iranian women’s untold suffering. In a letter dated January 2, 1956, Forough wrote, ‘My wish is for Iranian women to be free and equal to men. I am fully aware that my sisters in this country suffer from men’s injustices, and I use half of my art to articulate their pain and anguish.’ Forough’s poetry symbolizes a woman imprisoned by ancient traditions and seeking the light.” Ansari’s film, Another Birth, is titled after Farrokhzad writing, Another Birth, published in 1963.

Giving his imagination full scope, the director creates image of an alternative future - presents a diffrent view of the capital, Reykjavik, and questions accepted ideas about his country, Iceland.

This is a film about strong people who are free spirits and who are not concerned with the majority of things that excite city dwellers. Perhaps these fates can serve as an example, can help us see ourselves through another person’s eyes, and allow us to take a new look at our own lives.

A story of a young student of medicine, who arrives in a small mountain village after being accused for carrying out illegal abortion. The film reflects the moral decline of the society, where stealing in secret and making compromises against one's beliefs make up mundane reality. The filmmakers went to perhaps the furthest possible limits in terms of allowed social criticism in the 1980s. The negative picture is enhanced by its rural setting, since the Slovak village had been traditionally associated with strict morals and conservative values.
