Third dive takes place in middle of the Atlantic 1200 miles west of Portugal, which is also deepest of the three dives, divers will descent in Russian submersible Mir from research vessel Keldish and the Mir will dive in the bottom of the ocean in 2300 metres .
This installation, assembling photographic works from the 1980s, highlights Sayadian’s favorite subjects: consumerism, sex and surrealism. In these controversial shots, the artist was able to express the «unreal» of a society marked by the exponential growth of capitalism and the backlash of 1970s feminism. Between overconsumption and post sexual liberation, explicit and monetized hyper sexualization made its grand entrance into Western society. At that time, sexuality and consumption are intimately linked, and this is what Sayadian gives us to look at through his critical, surrealist and quirky eye, revealing the absurdity of American society in the eighties.
For Abyss Film, Richards and Thornton intermix new videos with raw material from their own extensive archives. By doing so, they break with familiar forms of exhibition to share a kind of beginning in an open-ended encounter with the hidden and concrete aspects that characterize their respective works. Almost imperceptible attractions circumnavigate the breadth of their materials. Abyss Film speaks to possibilities made visible by the moving image, allowing a fall into the vertiginous pleasures of looking beyond and beyond again.
