A Woman

A travel journalist assigned to cover the launch of a luxury yacht. When she witnesses a passenger tossed overboard in the dead of night, no one believes her story as all on the ship have been accounted for. Doggedly she searches for answers, putting her own life in danger as the boat barrels through the desolate North Sea.

On January 25, 1984, at Long Beach State Art Gallery, Lisa called this performance Graphite Woman, as she was coated in this substance, and she recreated her world championship routine for a small audience of art lovers. Accompanied by the Shakuhachi flute, behind a low wall of gold bricks, Lisa again demonstrates her ideas of the body as art. This is something she promoted in her work as she saw herself as an artist whose canvas was her whole body.

Employing ubiquitous wedding videography x perfume advertisement tropes, the work is a humorous exploration of how the narratives we have absorbed dictate our daily lives, driving our short-term and long-term decisions.

A Well-Bread Woman is an experimental short centered on the dark themes of the treatment of women of colour in the film industry.

The story of Stephen Anderson, a man who truly believes he was "written by a woman."

In this video work Bruce Nauman explores violence, gender and behaviour. Set around a simple middle class dining table, the scene quickly escalates into a slapstick fight between a man and a woman. Their actions become increasingly more erratic and aggressive yet also ridiculous and cartoon-like as the video progresses. Nauman explores the ways in which anger can be provoked by others and questions the way we can react to them. Much like many of his other artworks, he employs the use of humour and exaggeration to explore serious and even dangerous topics - he produced this work as a result of his frustration with futile acts of violence in ordinary life. He explains, “The viewer is presented with a hypnotic repetition of pointlessly cruel and destructive violence which is both seductive and alienating.”

The love of King Edward VIII for American divorcée Wallis Warfield Simpson eventually leads to his abdication.

This film is broadly divided into three segments. The first shows clumps of meat drifting under the sea and eventually floating to the surface. The next, set in a black market on an American military base next to a seaside construction site, portrays a woman distributing meat to a throng of male laborers. The final segment takes place in a stalactite-laden cave from which a multitude of women emerge and move towards the sea en masse.
