In the year of Leo Tolstoy's death, Dziga Vertov, an unknown boy from Bialystok, was 14 years old. One of the main episodes of the film is a screen story about the Moscow agricultural exhibition of 1923, which reveals the common focus of the writer and director's efforts.

In the spirit of The Buena Vista Social Club, this powerful documentary from filmmaker Cecilia Domeyko introduces the Camerata Romeu, a rare group of female musicians with a woman conductor -- one of the most popular acts in Cuba. Narrowly escaping confiscation by the Komitet gosudarstvennoy bezopasnosti (KGB) shortly after its completion, Pašportrets remained hidden until 1994–1995, when it was restored and premiered at Anthology Film Archives in New York City.
