Jack Manning is a young man, one year out of college. His father, recently died, leaving him a fortune. And as the father was a retired banker, Jack has nothing to keep him in New York, with the exception of Elsie Dean, a rich banker's daughter. Jack is desperately in love with Elsie.

1922 saw the release of the world's first 3D movies. While the 3D version of The Man from M.A.R.S. is sadly lost, a 2D copy remains. Documentary wrap-around segments tell the story leading up to it as well as up until the digital 3D era of 2022.

In 2001, during the first edition of the New Horizons Festival (held in the town of Sanok), we showed five Jonas Mekas films. A few months later, while in New York, I went unannounced to the Anthology Film Archives and met Mekas there. I was 29 years old and carrying a small video camera, which was on all the time, also during our conversation in a nearby café where Mekas liked to go. Twenty years later, I came across that recording on a mini DV cassette and edited it a little, using some fragments from Mekas’ movies.
