“Tomorrow’s Hope” brings us into the journey of passionate educators and tenacious kids determined to carve out the future despite daunting realities on Chicago’s South Side. Reconnecting with three high school seniors who had started out in the Educare Preschool’s first-ever class, the film explores how early education can set forth lasting pathways for brighter outcomes - even in the most brutally unforgiving of environments. As the contrast of promises kept emerges against a formidable backdrop of promises broken, “Tomorrow’s Hope” celebrates the thirst for understanding and the resilience of the human spirit.
Commissioned by The Common Guild as part of the Commonwealth 2014 celebrations, Phil Collins's film is both a modern day city symphony and a love letter to Glasgow. Through musical numbers, animation and a uniquely Glaswegian cable TV station, the film conjures up a distinctive vision of a city. Collins met people in maternity hospitals, schools, community groups and social clubs for the elderly, asking them to sing songs, make predictions for the future, debate the status of freedom in today’s society, guide us through the city’s most famous prison and dance like there’s no tomorrow. With animation by Matthew Robins, stellar songs from Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon, soundtrack contributions from Mogwai’s Barry Burns, local voodoo ravers Golden Teacher and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Tomorrow Is Always Too Long will take you on a trip deep into the heart of the city and beyond.
May Tomorrow Shine the Brightest of All Your Many Days As It Will Be Your Last (2009, co-directed with Paul Harnden) shakily shows cloaked figures moving through woods, followed by soldiers, and seeking quiet places to read, seemingly in escape from some kind of disaster. A metallic ring obscures words spoken offscreen; wind blows through shimmering trees. It’s only occasionally that we see faces beneath their cloaks—a solemn old man, a blankly gazing old woman.

In 1958, shortly before the communist revolution, a tourist film was made to promote Cuba. In 2014 the filmmakers revisited the same locations. The comparison between past and present through identical camera angles continues on the soundtrack, evoking a country twice in a state of transition.
