For 19 minutes, as we watch a horse reflecting on fatherhood, space rockets, time and interpersonal relationships, his trail of thoughts hovers in the air in the form of ghostly colors.

In the big city of Yanagihara, the masses of people and buildings make it a bustling place to exist, and yet, people will meet and fall in love here in this city.

Celica is the daughter of a wealthy family. Her father owns a big house and has a lot of money. However, they are living in a small house at the country side and they plan to move. Tewada's family wants to go first to prepare the new house for Celica's family, which only includes her dad and herself. When Celica and her father are on their way to the new house, some assigned bad guys try to kill them and Celica's father dies. Before he died, he burned his daughter with a symbol stamp to represent that she is his daughter. Tewada's family thought that both of them died and they pretended that Tewada is Celica's father's son in order for him to get the inheritance. Years later, Celica and Tewada are both grown up and they meet again.

In the aftermath of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, a journalist arrives in Nagaoka, a city decimated during a WWII air raid and by the 2004 Chūetsu earthquakes, to report on the disaster; there, she learns about the experiences of its inhabitants and stumbles upon a stage play written by an enigmatic student of her ex-boyfriend.

30-year-old factory worker Simon lives a solitary existence on a decrepit farm in the remote French countryside. Devoting his time to caring for his sister Estelle, who was left severely disabled when a childhood game went horribly wrong, Simon is plagued by guilt and depression. Anna is a local village girl; she has a daughter, Julia, from a previous relationship. Some doubt whether this new relationship will work out – but not Marco or Anna. They get married. Their love is gentle and beautiful; unable to fully fathom it, they express it in simple words. The trust between them grows and their tenderness endures; the happiness they feel at every touch is only surpassed by the warmth of stroking a cow. But soon Marco seems to be losing control of his impulses more and more often.

The bandit Pratt, looking for Tim, who is responsible for the death of his two sons, attacks a caravan killing all the passengers. Harry, the vagabond, after having robbed the dead, casually meets Tim and they become friends. Running away together from Pratt, they reach Harry's farm, but their hiding place is soon discovered.

The Soviet command has alarming information about the new invention of the enemy. According to intelligence, the Nazis delivered a batch of new chemical shells filled with gas of tremendous destructive power to one of the sections of the Eastern Front. The Nazis want to test them in combat conditions, and then apply them on a large scale.
