A down-and-out scholar Atsai is so disillusioned with life that he tries to commit suicide in a dilapidated temple. At that very moment, a female ghost appears on the scene. As she is on the verge of killing him, a male ghost also shows up. The male ghost saves him, but Atsai gives him a scolding for his trouble. Then they start sharing their woes, and end up drowning their sorrow in wine. Unfortunately, the wine is drugged and Atsai dies. Forty years later, a Taoist priest meets the ghost of Atsai, who asks for his help because he is being controlled by an old demon and cannot be reborn.

The film is inspired by the ancient Chinese book "Yi Jian Zhi." It tells the story of Sun Tianyi, who was forced to live in the ancestral house that had been in disrepair for a long time. A series of supernatural events soon follows.

Taiwan wuxia directed by Joseph Kuo

The good citizens of a small Austrian town are all aquiver; the schoolmaster has published a brochure in which can be read, black on white, the story of the 'dead guest,' in whose embrace the town's prospective brides found death. But worst of all, the writer of the brochure has plausibly concluded that the 'dead guest' will return this very year! A copy of this film is conserved in the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC).

This is a heartwarming comedy with the message that everyone has the right to pursue true love despite boundaries of age and, yes, physical size. So, what do you think? More or less a Thai version of The Exorcist. A couple and their young daughter move into an old, remote house. Bones are found in the attic where strange noises are heard and the creepy voyeuristic caretaker (who spies on the family through hidden passageways) calls for an evil spirit that thrives on virgin's blood. The daughter is finally possessed, speaks with a male voice, develops extreme strength and goes on a rampage.
