The Dinosaur Hunter

A 13-year-old girl and her older brother live on a farm where paleontologists search for fossils.

The film reveals the life, plight and loves of the eminent Mary Anning, an 1800's fossil hunter - navigating her career and research in a male dominated society at a time when women's research was largely unrecognised or plagiarised by men. Predominantly unknown despite her spectacular finds, including Icthyiousauri, a Pterodactyl and Plesiosaurus, and notwithstanding the fact that Darwins' 'Origin of Species' was largely influenced by her work. She is at last becoming the most celebrated paleontologist of all time.

Federico Fanti, paleontologist and explorer, coordinates an international mission composed of 15 experts. The group will try and face the phenomenon of fossil smuggling in a concrete way.

In the past twenty years, the study of dinosaurs has turned into a true and complete scientific discipline. Iconic and familiar to the general public, dinosaurs represent one of the greatest revolutions in the history of science. New technologies have revealed secrets hidden in prehistoric bones that nobody could have foreseen until a few years ago.

One man who kept asking questions was Gideon Mantell, the amateur paleontologist who, in the early 19th century, fought to get the British scientific establishment to accept Britain had been inhabited by dinosaurs. As this dramatised documentary shows, Mantell had an uphill battle in a time when the biblical account of creation was considered literal truth and authorities such as the Reverend William Buckland were determined that science remain "the handmaid of religion".

While digging in his front garden, Dennis finds a big bone. To prove it's from a dinosaur, he persuades his father to invite an old buddy of him, Bowen Skyler III, who's a famous 'dinosaur hunter'. Being desperate for publicity, Skyler informs press and television... and starts a paleontologic dig in their front garden.
