KWAK Hyeon-sook, owner of the second-hand bookstore "Abel Bookstore" in Baedari village, Incheon, has been in business for over 30 years. In The Nature of Space, Frank Scheffer juxtaposes the ideas of two Dutch architects: the Benedictine monk Dom H. van der Laan and the anthroposophic architect Ton Alberts. Van der Laan represents a plain and pure architecture, based on his own research into ratios. He designed churches and monasteries, among them a monastery in Vaals. Ton Alberts works from organic forms, as demonstrated by his design of the NMB Bank headquarters in Amsterdam. Director Frank Scheffer stresses the difference in style between these architects, both of whom allow their spiritual background to be reflected in their work, by adopting a very different camera style in the case of each. A hundred years after the establishment of the "Monte Sinai" Community in Mexico City, its history is relived through a number of compelling and touching stories.

A film diary shot in 8mm and 16mm over 10 years, from 1997 to 2007. A man with a camera runs from Sapporo and Ishikari in the north, to the Amami Islands such in the south, and as far as Jordan and Iraq in the west. Encounters with poets, anthropologists, Russian literature scholars, Ainu ethnic activists, nationalists, folk dancers, musicians, Amami singers, dark dancers, cameramen, shamisen players, and more are captured in dazzling images and sound. The title comes from Atsushi Nakajima's poem "In the darkness of Nubatama's universe, there is something bright about human culture."
