A young woman, Maya, is treated in a mountain hotel, where her husband joins her every Saturday. She falls in love with an attractive lawyer, who has come to this hotel in Savoie to successfully climb the Aiguille Rouge. The lawyer rejects Maya at first, but ends up becoming her lover and promises to run away with her... once the Aiguille Rouge has been climbed. But a storm breaks out during the ascent, and the lawyer dies, struck down.
Prince Eugen painted his parents' royal palace as a dark castle. Born with a gold spoon in his mouth, he chose a different life than the royal family wanted. He took a political and professional position and went his own way. Eugen became the painting prince and built his own palace at Waldemarsudde which he gave away after his death. Prince Eugen has just turned 150 and celebrated his anniversary at Waldemarsudde, the castle at Djurgården that he left to the Swedes. The Prince's path to independence and creation was crooked. As the youngest son in the Bernadotte family, the son was to become an officer. Of course, what others found, of course, to choose life partners and occupations, Eugen relinquished. But life as an artist and at the same time as a representative of the royal family gave him no rest. Did he succeed in his painting just because he was a prince? He didn't feel at home anywhere.
The city comes to life around a little girl and plays ball with her while she is waiting for her mother to do the shopping. Made in gouache technique, this lyrical short film was highly innovative for its time, winning the first prize at the Children’s Film Festival in Venice.
The plot of the film starts at the beginning of the century, in the heyday of the Andrássy and Károlyi families, during the ever increasing crisis of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and ends with the emigration of the Károlyi couple after the collapse of the 1918-19 revolutions. It tells the story of this historical period (war, revolution, take-over by the proletariat, dictatorship) from the view of an extremely wealthy lady, Andrássy Katinka. The authors tried to evoke the special story during which a strange and unique woman gets thoroughly involved in history through her love and at the same time keeps her own identity and self-governance.
