Highlands

Highlands is a 6-part documentary series produced by STV Productions and broadcast on STV in Northern and Central Scotland and The History Channel, presented by Taggart actor John Michie. Highlands focused on the Highland Clearances of the late 18th & early 19th centuries and the political & religious events that led to the forced displacements and widespread evictions which diluted the culture of area and led to mass emigration to the Lowlands, the coast and abroad. Locations featured in the series included Culloden, Glenfinnan, Urquhart Castle, Strathcarron and Durness. The Earl of Cromartie and author/historian Jim Hunter were amongst the featured local highlanders and historians featured. Since its original broadcast, the series has since been aired on History and released on DVD.

The population of the lower valley is divided, but the upper region remains loyal, since they have been given special autonomy and a favorable system of taxation. David, a postman, works between the two regions. His father, who is a hard-line conservative, does not approve of his relationship with Julie, who is from the lower part of the valley. Julie's father, on the other hand, is more open to the new ideas of liberation. As a result of his work, David is exposed to new ideas and becomes a believer in equality and justice.

Ayumi Aizawa is a lonely young man without a family. He works at Forest Hyde Press Hotel as a cleaner. His deceased grandfather Kenzaburo worked at the same hotel. When his grandfather worked at the Forest Hyde Press Hotel, the hotel was well known for its extreme hospitality. Now, the hotel is nothing more than an ordinary hotel. New manager Ryuuya Sawashiro then attempts to bring the hotel back to its glory days.
