Alessandro, a forty-year-old widower pediatrician, lives with his teenage son, leading a monotonous and insipid existence. After a call from an old friend in Brazil, the man has his tired stability tested.

Roberto is a doctor in a small town near Naples. He suffers from a severe heart disease and he is heading toward an American hospital for a dangerous surgery with little or no hope of surviving. Therefore he talks to his best friend since childhood, Michele, a columnist at the local newspaper, explaining his last and long-wanted desire: having sex once with his Swedish beautiful wife, Frida.

The charming Pascal, owner of a clothing store in Courchevel, and the chubby and scruffy Micky, disc jockey in a nearby club, are best of friends. Friends of Gilda was a 1993 ninety-minute television special made by CBC Television to benefit the Genesis Research Foundation, the research fundraising arm of the University of Toronto’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Its original air date was 21 November 1993. The fundraiser was a tribute to Gilda Radner who died of ovarian cancer in 1989 and featured a long list of performers with whom she was friendly. Among these were the "surviving cast members" who had shared the stage with Gilda Radner in the celebrated Toronto production of Godspell which was her professional stage debut. Others appearing in the special knew her from Second City Toronto. Several—including Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin—fell into both those categories. The special was directed by Martin Short who had dated Radner when they were both in Godspell. Short also appeared in the show itself and shared writing credit with Perry Rosemond. Paul Shaffer, who conducted and played piano for the same Toronto production of Godspell, appeared as music director. The special included songs from Godspell, backstage footage of the production, several clips from Saturday Night Live, and four comedy sketches:

Lost and devastated after being dumped by his girlfriend Fae, eighteen year old aspiring playwright Luke traverses a complex landscape of the borders between platonic and romantic love. Writing a play about their break-up as a way to sift through the pieces of his and Fae’s relationship, things are made all the more complicated when his two best friends start dating.

Wataru and Makoto are two singers and on their way from a performance to an interview when they are ambushed. Their attackers, who identify themselves as the "Noblemen Squad" take Makoto hostage and leave Wataru and their female manager behind. Luckily, the manager's brother (Ren Osugi, here working under the pseudonym Kyoji Saeki) drops by and starts training Wataru so he can rescue his partner.
