Self Sacrificing Grandmothers Of Black Sea starts a journey through the past of the Black Sea region in Turkey and people living there by presenting stories from the women's life in Black Sea region, who cannot give up the village and highland life where the traditional Blacksea lifestyle is still dominant, failed in adapting the urban life and culture, got married at an early age and took root in the village and the village culture. It dwells on their life rituals, connections with this difficult geography, everyday problems and how they hold onto their lives. This documentary, which pays attention to the words of Self Sacrificing Grandmothers Of Black Sea region of Turkey who have witnessed at least three generations comes to life as a regional and humane memory workout and a study of oral history.

Alguén me chamou Serpe Negra explores the tortuous path that memories and dreams take in our mind. Thanks to the texture of analogue hand-painted animation, the film is an invitation to an oneiric universe made of loose connections and revised spatial dimensions. Filmmaker Borja Santomé Rodríguez takes us with him on a journey made of images that play with love and adventure, childhood curiosities and adult desires, and in which the ultimate reward is to get lost.

Fukasaku and Chiba are back in a sequel filmed with the same cast and released just two weeks after the first film. This time the storyline is set in a small seaside town and the film favours detective and watadori film influences over westerns. Like its predecessor, the film runs barely over one hour and never drags. It’s a little less goofy, but doesn’t have as beautiful landscapes the first movie had. Not an especially good film, but for fans of Fukasaku and Chiba it’s an entertaining if flawed 60 minutes.
