Africa is a land of giants. Its mighty rivers sculpt the earth and form impressive valleys and waterways home to many imposing and powerful inhabitants. These are the rivers where massive elephants and hippos live, feed and drink and where ancient crocodiles hunt and breed. They share the rivers with other creatures of their kind, such as porcupines - the giant rodents in Africa, the martial eagle - the biggest of its kind on the continent, and the leopard - a giant among the spotted cats
The viewer is brought along on an adventure in the style of a GoPro-travel documentary. Different blocks are merged together; a backstreet in Accra leads to a shore in Sierra Leone, with a soundtrack of Swedish pop music – and behind every corner lies a makeshift gym, a slaughtered hen, or a tailor of fake Dior suits in Guinea-Conakry.

"How centuries of division built one of the most unequal countries on earth."
"The Central African Republic's capital of Bangui has seen its Muslim population drop from 130,000 to under 1000 over the past few months. Over the past year, thousands across CAR have been killed and nearly a million have been displaced. The United Nations recently stated that the entire Western half of the country has now been cleansed of Muslims.... "In March 2013, the Séléka, a mostly Muslim rebel alliance, rose up and overthrew the corrupt government of François Bozizé, while bringing terror and chaos across the country - pillaging, killing and raping with impunity. In response, mostly Christian self-defense forces, called the anti-balaka, formed to defend CAR against Séléka attacks."
Directed by Jean Rouch.
In this exclusive broadcast, Democracy Now! breaks the media blockade and goes to occupied Western Sahara in the northwest of Africa to document the decades-long Sahrawi struggle for freedom and Morocco's violent crackdown. Morocco has occupied the territory since 1975 in defiance of the United Nations and the international community. Thousands have been tortured, imprisoned, killed and disappeared while resisting the Moroccan occupation. A 1,700-mile wall divides Sahrawis who remain under occupation from those who fled into exile. The international media has largely ignored the occupation—in part because Morocco has routinely blocked journalists from entering Western Sahara. But in late 2016 Democracy Now! managed to get into the Western Saharan city of Laayoune, becoming the first international news team to report from the occupied territory in years.

Motorcycle explorer Spencer Conway sets off to tackle the biggest challenge of his life. Taking little in the way of equipment (other than a trusty Tenere), Spencer heads out to circumnavigate the second-largest and second-most-populous continent. Conway’s adventure brings him into close contact with the diverse and vibrant cultures of Africa, proving that the old Western soubriquet of "The Dark Continent" was about as far from the truth as possible. He has to contend with hugely varied terrain, including crossings of the Nubian, Namibian and Saharan Deserts, extremes of weather, impenetrable bureaucracy and pretty loose interpretations of the rules of the road. Along the way he encounters difficulties and challenges – not the least of which is getting shot at in Kenya – but he doesn’t let it put him off as he continues his quest to ride all the way around Africa.
