The story of Dr. Mukherjee, a highly respected civil surgeon in a small tribal district headquarters. He is the beloved of the local people, and often comes in conflict with Laxman Lal, the tyrannical son of a local aristocrat. Laxman Lal lusts after a local widow who, in order to escape his advances seeks shelter with Dr. Mukherjee. As Dr. Mukherjee treats the poor he becomes even more entwined with their lives and their little problems. To the tribals he is a godlike figure, but to Laxman Lal he is an enemy.

A six-year-old Rohingya boy named Hossain fills his days with grand adventure while growing up in the world’s biggest refugee camp. But soon, the crisis around him grows increasingly dangerous and he must grapple with the complexities of an unfair world for the first time in his young life.

Pablo, a 12-year-old boy, receives a scholarship to attend school in the mysterious and isolated Colonia Dignidad established in Chile by German settlers. It seems to be quite a privilege for a kid like him, and he quickly becomes the favourite of the leader of the colony, Uncle Paul. Over time, Pablo witnesses some kind of strange things which happen there and make him act differently than the other students.

A lyrical and contemplative gallery tour is unexpectedly interrupted by personal memories. Shared metaphors are conjured up by remembered, real and imagined smells. Wandering among this gallery’s replicated portraits the lingering smells of surrounding exhibits and faint smells of air, questions are raised about truth, perception and the conditions that interfere with our perception of place.

‘Out of Place’ revolves around a fictional concept of escaping the earth. It was created as a research process and as a work-in-progress film for a feature non-fiction. Surviving both as Korean and Asian women, we try to escape with a novel voyage from this Earth to another planet. When the bizarre statistics on us and the nonvisualised epic gather on this new planet, the voices from the ones who breathe here with one another form echoes, which continue as a round. There, the voices that this society has taught about us, and the voices we speak out for ourselves, coexist like a twin. At the moment of those two voices intersecting and colliding with each other, an unexpected scenery could be found throughout this entire film.

A mountain forest, its slope and rocks. Bow in hand, an old hunter tracks the chamois in silence against the wind.
