A Place

A loose adaptation and parody of the Lewis Carroll tale by Hanna-Barbera Productions. A modern-day teenager doing a book report on Alice is accidentally sucked into her television set and ends up in a wacky version of Wonderland.

In 1972, Louis Malle adopted the direct cinema approach to film passers-by in the Place de la République in Paris, taking stock of their daily lives... Forty-five years later, as a tribute to Louis Malle, young director Hafid Aboulahyane repeats the experience in his own way, revealing the profound changes that have taken place since then. Worlds open up, respond to each other and collide, through a mosaic of characters blending their personal histories with that of this emblematic place.

After watching Louis Malle’s Place de la République, a young film-maker decides thirty years later to return on his footsteps at the same time of the year to shoot another documentary using an identical set-up.

"If I Wanted Your Opinion, I’d Remove the Duct Tape" is a recording of a performance work of the same title that she toured in 2016 onward, in which she read a set of rape jokes.

One of a series of Idemitsu’s works which deal with housewives buried in everyday life. Idemitsu overlapped a 16 mm work that had Yoneyama Mamako pantomiming in her “Tango of a Hosewife” for the Commemoration of the International Women’s year, 1975. Behind Mamako pantomiming as a housewife, there are clouds, sunsets and bonfires.

Its traditional Polynesian way of life has been swamped over the years by foreign influences, particularly that of France. However, the long-awaited re-emergence of traditional culture is the focus of this documentary. We look at some of the people responsible for the cultural revival and their arts including the building of a double hulled canoe, the art of full body tattooing and the fierce dance competitions at the high point of celebration of Polynesian culture, the Tiurai Festival.

This film seeks to uncover the hidden meanings behind what appear to be senseless acts of terrorism, including the strategies intended to dismantle select governments. Using extensive research and factual information, it examines how this terrorism is used to execute a Marxist-Leninist doctrine known as "Ware of National Liberation." Once the terrorists overthrow the government, they're ousted as well, leaving the Marxist machine in charge.

The film consists of a pencil-sketch animation which depicts a story in which all of the thirty-six dramatic situations listed occur in the order above. Some of the situations recur or continue during others, and are indicated in parentheses. The film is narrated by a woman who identifies herself as "Pam Held" (no spelling given).

We see how queer identities intertwined with diaspora are bound up by rejection from the home country, the struggle of racism in the host country, and the confusion of cultural assimilation in the context of ethnocultural transformation. Finally, the work delves into the reality that for people who are marginalised, either culturally, geographically, or socially is always a state of exile.
