A Place

Benno and Allegra: he's over fifty, English, and drinks like a fish; she's twenty years younger, a travel blogger with lots of imagination. They both live off their lies and have no intention of stopping now. Next-door neighbors who had never met until the day he wound up on the wrong landing, and nothing would ever be the same. Sheer chance leads this odd couple on a flight towards lost or forgotten places, where their mutual support makes for self-discovery.

When Susan, a film producer from NYC, goes to Jamaica to shoot a shampoo commercial, she finds herself, through a series of unforeseen circumstances, drifting further and further away from the world she knows and into the life of the island, a strange alternative reality that turns many of her previously held assumptions upside down.

After their return from exile they find themselves in situations that seem like another kind of exile, which is perhaps in some ways more painful. They connect with what they feel deep inside, and they recognise that they share these experiences with others and have a collective history.

A Holy Place director Djordje Kadijevic looks back at how his early counter-revolutionary war films led to him inadvertently becoming part of the ‘Yugoslav Black Wave’, and how a polite but firm block on the making of any more such films led him into television and eventually towards the fantasy genre.
