"Societies have always been shaped more by the nature of the media with which people communicate than by the content of the communication." - Marshall McLuhan Marshall McLuhan, one of Canada's most influential and controversial figures, burst into the center of media circles in North America with his strange and prophetic pronouncements - "electric light is pure information" - on advertising, television, and the emerging computer age. "Out Of Orbit" also pays tribute to McLuhan, his message, and the way in which his theories and words have penetrated and influenced the consciousness of today's media-literate society.

Dr James Fox takes a journey through six different landscapes across Britain, meeting artists whose work explores our relationship to the natural world. From Andy Goldsworthy's beautiful stone sculptures to James Turrell's extraordinary sky spaces, this is a film about art made out of nature itself. Featuring spectacular images of landscape and art, James travels from the furthest reaches of the Scottish coast and the farmlands of Cumbria to woods of north Wales. In each location he marvels at how artists' interactions with the landscape have created a very different kind of modern art - and make us look again at the world around us.
A mutilated and grotesque woman’s body chases after a man. The combination of the photomontage and text represents women’s labor, expressed through uniforms and clothes, and women who were sexually objectified, conveying feminist discourses and disciplines. The chased man never understands the existence or content of the images and texts. The blunt presentation of women’s unheard voices and objectified bodies, and the excessively-visualized images, demand immediate introspection.

Very little was left of the film by Anne Prat, a brilliant student who studied cinema with me at the University of Paris in the 1970s. Anne Prat was not just any student. Three weeks before summer break in 1976, even though she had not taken part in any of practical lessons, she presented a short film, shot in the Brakhage style, which surprised all of us with its technical mastery. She informed me she was going to stop studying and go to Australia, and that her film was just the beginning of a larger and more complicated cinematographic work. She had left me the material for her film at the university, in a big box, and asked me to pick it up. At that time, I had no idea I would never going to see her again… (C. L.)
